At 3:05 local time, a 29-year-old Uzbek national identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov carried out a vehicular attack in Lower West Side of Manhattan. The perpetrator, in a rented home depot pickup truck, turned from Houston Street southbound into a bike path--along the west side highway deliberately ramming bicycle raiders and pedestrians. The attacker left the bike path on Chambers Street where he collided with a school bus. He than exited the vehicle brandishing two pellet guns while shouting Allah hu Akbar before he was shot and wounded by a police officer. The attacker was arrested and taken to a local hospital. At least 8 people were killed in the attack and 11 others were injured. Saipov came to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010, and had a green card that allowed permanent legal residence. He had apparently lived in Tampa, Florida and moved to Passaic, New Jersey about two years ago. The attack came hours before the annual Halloween parade in the Soho district of the city, which was held under increased security measures.
