Four foreign cyclists from the United States, Switzerland and the Netherlands, were killed and three more from Switzerland, the Netherlands and France, were injured in a vechicular attack and stabbing attack while cycling through a rural area 90 km/55 miles southeast of the capital Dushanbe. Security forces pursued the suspects, killed four and arrested a fifth. In a press briefing, Interior Minister Ramazon Rakhimzoda, stated that police was investigating the motives behind the attack, including as terrorist act. The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe said it considered the incident to be an intentional attack. Hours later, the Islamic State via Islamic State vis its AMAQ news agency claimed responsibility for the attack. The group however, did not provide further detail or evidence for its claim.
